How to Remove Mauser Barrel Bands
In addition to supplying the German armed forces, Mauser bolt-action rifles and semi-automatic pistols have been used by civilians for hunting and self-defense purposes. As with any firearm, it is important to know how to disassemble your Mauser rifle properly so that you can carry out routine maintenance or repairs. In order to properly remove the barrel of the rifle, you will have to take off the barrel bands which help hold it in place. This can be mildly tricky, however, if you do not know how to do it.

1
Pull open the bolt action and ensure that there are no live rounds chambered in the Mauser. This should always be your first step when working on your rifle.
-
2
Attach the C-clamp to the front of the Mauser so that it presses down and relieves the tension on the long barrel band spring on the right side of the rifle. This spring is located between the two barrel bands and helps keep them in place by applying tension.

3
Place the tip of your brass punch against the back of the forward barrel band and tap the butt lightly with your hammer. This will eventually slide the barrel band forward to the point where you can remove it from the rifle.
-
4
Loosen the C-clamp carefully. Lift the clamp up and pull it straight forward and out from under the rear barrel band.
-
5
Tap the rear barrel band off of the barrel with your brass punch and hammer using the same method described in Step 3.
