How to Access an FTP Site From Vista
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a network protocol that allows you to transfer files to and from an FTP server. You can set up a shortcut to an FTP site in the Windows Vista operating system. You can choose to log on to the FTP site anonymously or with a user name and password. Once you set up the shortcut, you can access the FTP site by clicking the shortcut.

Click the "Start" button.

Click the "Computer" menu option.

Right-click anywhere in the "Computer" window.

Click the "Add a Network Location" menu option.

Click the "Choose a custom network location" and click the "Next" button.

Type "ftp://example.com" in the address text box and click the "Next" button. Replace "example.com" with the address of the FTP site.

Type a user name in the "username" text box and click the "Next" button. If you want to log in anonymously, click the "Log on anonymously" check box.

Click the "Next" button on the next screen.

Click the "Finish" button to set up the shortcut to the FTP site and open the site in a new window.
