Healthy lips are essential to a beautiful face. Though lip color is considered a genetic trait, there are several external factors that can greatly influence lip pigmentation. Change in lip color is mainly caused by an excess of nicotine and caffeine. Darkened lips can be a sign of bad health and may require attention.

Things You'll Need

  • Almond oil
  • Honey
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • Glycerin
  • Coriander leaf juice
  • Gentle toothbrush
  • Vaseline
  • Cucumber extract
  • Small containers

Exfoliate your lips with a gentle toothbrush and a little Vaseline. The toothbrush will help remove dead skin cells and lighten the pigmentation, while vaseline is a great moisturizer.

Slice half a cucumber and place over your lips. Leave on for 30 to 40 minutes. This vegetable is a natural toner that helps regenerate skin cells.

Mix 1 tsp. lemon juice and glycerin in a container. Apply once a day until lips start to lighten. This will help whiten and protect your lips.

Place sugar and honey in a small bowl and stir. Add some drops of almond oil for moisture and mix thoroughly. Gently scrub the mixture on your lips.

Cover your lips with a bit of coriander juice and let sit overnight. This will help lighten your lips and give them a rosy color.

Tips & Warnings

  • Beeswax can also be used to lighten lip color
  • Always use SPF lip balm. Lips are highly sensitive to sunburn.
  • Drink large amounts of water, vitamin C or milk. Dehydration is one of the causes for darkened lips
  • Make sure to use a very gentle brush for exfoliating. Lip skin is extremely sensitive and can tear easily.
