How to Calculate Total Processor Cores

Due to improvements in technology, computer microprocessors can now hold multiple cores, thus improving the performance of applications that require a large amount of processing power. Processors such as the Intel i5 and Intel i7 can hold up to six cores. You can calculate the number of cores on your computer's processor by using the Windows Task Manager.

  • Right-click the Windows taskbar.

  • Click the option labeled "Start Task Manager" on the pop-up menu.

  • Click the tab labeled "Performance." The number of boxes under "CPU Usage History" corresponds to the number of cores on your computer's processor.
