How to Activate an iPhone 4 With a Different Phone Number


The iPhone 4 is a Global Systems for Mobile, GSM, Communications cellular phone that uses a subscriber identity module, SIM, card to function on a GSM cellular network. The SIM card allows the GSM cellular service provider to identify a subscriber and assigns a phone number to the iPhone. When you insert a new SIM card into your iPhone, you need to activate the SIM card to work with your iPhone.

Things You'll Need

  • Paperclip
  • iPhone data cable
  • Bend the edge of a paperclip and insert the bent edge into the hole located on the right side of your iPhone 4. The SIM card tray pops out of your iPhone.

  • Pull the SIM card tray completely out of your iPhone and replace the SIM card with the new SIM card that functions with the phone number you want to activate on your iPhone. Push the SIM card tray back into the slot on the right side of your iPhone.

  • Connect the data cable to your iPhone 4, and connect the other end of the data cable to a USB port on your computer.

  • Double-click the iTunes icon on your computer to open the application.

  • Select your iPhone from the list of "Devices" on the left side of the iTunes window.

  • Click the "Activate" button to activate the new phone number associated with the new SIM card on your iPhone. iTunes prompts you when the process is complete.
