How to Change the Color of Emails in Hotmail


Hotmail, founded in 1996 and owned by Microsoft, is one of the oldest free email providers that is still in operation. If you have been using your Hotmail account for some time, you may have grown tired of the default blue interface and black-on-white text color of emails. Hotmail provides a number of free themes that you can use to customize the interface of the website. Within an email, Hotmail gives you a palette of colors to choose from to modify the color of your text.

Changing the Color of the Hotmail Interface

  • Log in to your account at

  • Open the "Options" menu in the upper-right corner of the page, and select "More Options."

  • Click "Themes" under "Customizing Hotmail" on the right side of the page.

  • Click any image on the screen to select a new color and background image, and then click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

  • Log in to your account at

  • Click the "New" link in the upper-left corner of the window to begin composing a new message. Type and address the message as you would normally.

  • Use the mouse pointer to highlight the text that you want to change the color of.

  • Click the "A" button with a red line under it, on the right side of the toolbar above the text editing area.

  • Click the color that you want to change the text to.
