How to Select Text on an iPhone

The iPhone's touchscreen allows you to select a word or a section of text from an email, text message, or website, then copy and paste it somewhere else. This feature comes in handy if you want to insert a quote from an article you found online into an email. You can also select text if you need to edit it.

  • Touch and hold your finger to the area where you want to select text until you see a magnifying glass appear. The magnifying glass allows you to see exactly where the cursor is in the text.

  • Drag your finger to the area where you want the cursor to be, then tap the cursor to bring up the "selection buttons."

  • Touch "Select" to select the word adjacent to the cursor, or double tap the word you want to select. Tap "Select All" to select all of the text.

  • Tap on the place where you want to paste the selected text. When the "Paste" button appears, tap it.
