How to Get Listed in Google Maps


Google Places, a service of Google, Inc., lets you add a link to your business in Google Maps. While viewing a map of the area around your business, visitors will see a link to it, along with other information which you supplied to Google, such as photos, videos or current promotions. This will allow you to increase the visibility of your business to people who are planning to visit your town or city. You can add your listing to Google Places in just a few steps.

  • Open your web browser and visit the Google Places homepage (see Resources).

  • Log in to the site using your current Google account. If you are using any of Google's other services such as Gmail or Google Apps, you already have a Google account. If you don't, you can register and get your account by filling in the required form.

  • Click on the "Add business" link on the Google Places homepage.

  • Click on the "Find my business" tab, select your country from the drop-down menu and enter your business' phone number. Finally, click on "Find business information." This will allow you to check if Google Maps already has a listing for your business.

  • Click on "Add a new listing." Fill in the form by typing in the official name of your business, its physical address, phone number and web address. Then click "Next."

  • Type any optional information about your business in the form and click on "Submit." Examples of the optional information you can add to your listing are photos, videos and the hours of operation.

  • Select the method you would like Google to use to verify your listing. The verification methods vary according to your country. Typical methods include phone verification or uploading copies of your business' registration documents. After choosing a verification method, click on "Finish."
