How to Disable Guest Access on a Linksys E3000

Save

The Linksys E3000 network router offers a "Guest" feature so users can connect to your internal network without having access to internal computers. This provides security for your network while still allowing people to connect to the network and use it for Internet access. If you do not need Guest access, you improve security for your network by disabling the feature.

  • Click the Windows "Start" button on a computer connected to the Linksys network. Select your Web browser from the menu.

  • Type "192.168.1.1" into the navigation text box in your web browser. Press "Enter" to open the Linksys E3000 configuration console. Type your router's user name and password in the "Login" window, and press "Enter."

  • Click the "Change" link in "Guest" section panel. This link opens the Guest account settings. Click "No" in the option panel labeled "Allow guest access."

  • Click "Finish" to save your settings. Any guests connected to the network are immediately disconnected, and they can no longer connect to your network in the future.
