How to Delete the Factory Bookmarks on an iPad

All iPads come preloaded with the Safari Mobile Web browser, which includes several factory-installed bookmarks. If you prefer to keep your bookmark list clean, and don't use the stock bookmarks such as those for the Apple and Google home pages, you can delete these any time. You can also add your own bookmarks and bookmark folders to keep your frequently used URLs accessible on the iPad. If you want to keep your bookmarks but hide the bookmark bar, you can also do this through the iPad's general settings.

  • Launch the Safari app on your iPad.

  • Tap the bookmark icon, which looks like an open book, in the top toolbar.

  • Swipe your finger up or down on the list of bookmarks to scroll to the bookmark you want to delete.

  • Swipe your finger from left to right over the bookmark you want to delete.

  • Tap the red "Delete" button to delete the bookmark.

  • Delete multiple bookmarks by tapping the "Edit" button in the upper-right corner of the bookmark list. Tap the red symbol next to each bookmark you want to delete, then tap "Delete" on all of them and press "Done."

Tips & Warnings

  • To hide the bookmarks bar, tap the "Settings" app and choose "Safari," then set the "Always show bookmarks bar" slider to "Off."
