How to Do a Three Way Video Chat on Skype

When you can't be with your friends and loved ones in person, group video chat on Skype is the next best option. A Skype video chat between two people is free, but a Skype group video chat between three to 10 people requires a Skype Premium subscription, which you can purchase as a day pass, or a three- or 12-month subscription.

Things You'll Need

  • Skype 5.0 or higher
  • Webcam
  • Skype account
  • Purchase a Skype Premium subscription by going to Skype's homepage, rolling your mouse over "Prices," then clicking "Skype Premium." Choose the type of subscription you want to buy -- sign in to your Skype account with your username and password to purchase a subscription. For a video chat with three people, only one of the three people is required to have a Skype Premium subscription.

  • Log in to your Skype account.

  • Click on the name of one of the people you would like to call. You can call them as long as they are online with a green circle to the left of their name. Click on the video call button, a green circle with a video recorder, to start a video chat. Either you or the first person you video chat is required to have a Skype Premium subscription in order to add the third person to the chat.

  • Click "Add Person" to add the third caller to the group video chat, then select the name of the person you want to add. When the third person answers the call, you see both of your friends' videos on the screen.
