We’ve all been there: You’re just about to record an important video or download a cool new app when, uh-oh, no such luck. Your device is full. Keeping tabs on the amount of free space on your iPad means you're less likely to run out of room unexpectedly. On iPads running iOS 7, you can view the amount of storage available for use in the Usage section of the Settings app. You can also find this information in iTunes.
View Free Space on iPad
To view the amount of free space, start by tapping the “Settings” icon on the home screen of your iPad to load the Settings app. After the Settings app loads, tap “General” and then tap “Usage” to load the Usage screen. The amount of free space available on your iPad is displayed under the Storage heading. Farther down on the Usage screen you can view how much storage space individual apps are using. The amount of used space is listed next to the name of the app. Tap an app to see how its usage is broken up among various tasks. Depending on the app you select, you may be able to delete the app and portions of its content.
View Free Space in iTunes
You can also use the iTunes application on your computer to view the amount of free space available on your iPad. Connect your iPad to your computer and launch iTunes if your computer doesn’t open it automatically. Click the name of your iPad on the horizontal menu bar. The amount of free space displays on the bar at the bottom of iTunes. Hover your mouse over individual sections of the bar to see a breakdown of usage by content category.
