Save

Adobe Photoshop CS4 is one of the most widely used graphics and photo-editing applications on the market. Aside from its many uses in print advertising and publishing, it is also an effective tool for creating graphic layouts for websites. One of the most useful Photoshop tools for this purpose is the "Slice" tool. This tool allows a user to divide a design into separate parts to define clickable area like banners or buttons. However, you may find that you would like to be able to copy one of these slices into another Photoshop document.

  • Open Photoshop. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate and open a project document you have already sliced up.

  • Go to the toolbar on the right and choose the "Slice Select" tool. Click on the slice you want to copy. Select "Edit" from the menu and choose "Copy."

  • Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate and open the document into which you want to paste the slice. Select "Edit" from the menu and choose "Paste." The slice will appear in the document.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep in mind that any information you added to the slice before copying it, such as a URL address or name, will be lost when it is pasted into the new document.
