How to Change the Spell Check Language in Word 2007

To use your copy of Microsoft Office Word to produce documents in more than one language, you need to know how to change the spell-check language. Microsoft Office products are available in almost every language in existence, so, depending on the default language version of Office you purchased, you already have several language spell-check options available. If the language you need to add isn't included, you can download an additional language pack. Some of the packs are free and others you must pay for.

  • Open Microsoft Word and click the "Review" tab in the menu.

  • Click the "Set Language" icon in the Proofing group. The Language window will open.

  • Scroll down the list to find your desired language and click it to select it. If there is no icon to the left of the language, that language is not installed on the computer and you will need to purchase and install a language pack.

  • Click the "Set as Default" button to make this the automatic proofing language or click "OK" to use the language only for the current document.
