Dogs are fairly unique in personality and behavior, and one rarely acts exactly like another, but what they all seem to have in common is a love of hot dogs. You probably won't find your dog strolling along Coney Island looking for a hot dog, but you can fulfill his desire for this tasty treat by easily cooking up some in about 15 minutes in your own kitchen.
Things You'll Need
- Hot dogs
- Cutting board
- Paper towels
- Paper plates
- Storage container
- Freezer bags
Unwrap your hot dogs and lay four or five of them side by side on a cutting board.
Cut them in 1/4-inch slices. If your dog is very small, you may want to cut them in half again, or in quarters. To cut them easily in half, slice the hot dogs in half first, and then in half again to quarter. Always remember to calculate treats into your dog's total daily caloric intake.
Lay several paper towels on top of a paper plate. Line the plate with the hot dog pieces.
Place the treats in the microwave for 3 minutes, and check them. Continue to microwave until the treats are brown on the edges. Depending upon the wattage of your microwave, this may take several minutes.
Remove from microwave and allow to cool.
Store a few day's worth of treats in a storage container. They will keep in the refrigerator for three or four days. Store the remaining treats in the freezer in food storage bags, where they will keep for two to six months.
