How to Make Your Own "101 Dalmatians" Costume
If you're having trouble deciding what to dress your child up as on Halloween, here's a little treat for you. You can dress him as a "101 Dalmatians" puppy. The movie "101 Dalmatians" is a Walt Disney classic released in 1961 and based on the novel, "The Hundred and One Dalmatians" by Dodie Smith. The movie is popular among adults and children alike, and the homemade Halloween costume is easy to make. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need
- White sweat suit (with hood)
- Black fabric paint
- Paint brush
- Black felt
- Scissors
- Sewing machine and matching thread (or hand sew)
- 2 pairs of white socks
- Cotton
- Poster board
- Black and white face makeup

Create the Dalmatian's spots. Paint black spots of varying sizes all over the front of a white sweat suit using black fabric paint and a paint brush. Allow the paint to dry completely before you flip the suit over and add black spots to the back side.

Draw a dog ear pattern on a small piece of poster board. The ears can be as short or as long as you like. Shorter ears will be more noticeable. Longer ears will appear more flaccid. Cut the pattern out, and trace four ear pieces onto the black felt. Place two of the ear pieces on top of each other, and sew around the outer edge of the ear using a needle and thread. Leave a small opening so that you can stuff the ear with cotton to give it a more three-dimensional look. Stuff the ear with cotton, and sew it closed. Repeat the same process for the second ear.

Attach the ears to the hood of the sweat suit. Again, use a needle and thread to sew each ear to the hood of the sweatshirt. Shorter ears should be attached to the top of the hood. Longer ears should be attached to the sides of the hood.

Use two pairs of white socks to create paws. Paint a large circular black spot on the bottom of the socks along with four smaller black spots that border the top of it. These are the pads of the dog's feet. Allow the paint to dry completely before your child wears them. He will wear one sock on each hand and one sock on each foot.

Paint your youngster's face white with nontoxic face paint to match his outfit. Paint his nose black using black face paint.

Tips & Warnings
You can follow this same pattern, but make the black dots significantly larger to create a cow costume.
This costume can easily be re-used as play clothing for your child after Halloween is over.
