How to Update the Dell Graphics Drivers

A driver is a small program that bridges the communications gap between devices and the operating system. As technicians discover bugs and improve the drivers, they release updates. To ensure your computer's devices operate as efficiently and securely as possible, you must make sure you have the latest drivers installed. If you own a Dell computer, you can download the latest drivers, including video drivers, from the Dell Support website. The driver updates are self-installing files.

  • Open a Web browser and navigate to the Dell Support Drivers and Downloads page.

  • Use one of the three options available to find your specific computer's support page. The best method is to use the computer's service tag number if you know it. If not, click the "Select Model" link.

  • Scroll down the Drivers page and click the down arrow next to the "Video" listing. This will show you all the available video drivers.

  • Click "Download" next to the most recent driver in the list. Both the release date and driver version number are listed to help you with this. A pop-up window will open. Select your preferred download method and click the corresponding "Download" button.

  • Locate the file on your computer and double-click it to run the installation program. Depending on your operating system, you may have to grant permission to the program to make changes to the system. Follow the onscreen prompts and allow the program to run.
