How to Clean Pollen Off a Metal Roof
Metal roofs have the potential of lasting a lot longer than other types of roofs if you take proper care of them. A buildup of pollen and other debris may not only make the roof look unattractive, it can also create a mold or mildew problem. Cleaning your metal roof may be an all-day project, depending on the size of your home, but you should tend to it a few times a year to keep the metal in good condition. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Trisodium phosphate
- Bucket
- Measuring cup
- Rubber gloves
- Soft-bristled scrub brush
- Ladder
- Hose
- Towels
- Pressure washer
Instructions

Measure 1/2 cup of trisodium phosphate and combine it with 1 gallon of water in a bucket.

Submerge a soft bristled scrub brush into the TSP mixture, while wearing rubber gloves.

Scrub moldy areas, or areas where large amounts of pollen have settled, on your roof using the brush saturated with the cleaning solution.

Spray the area off with your hose to remove the solution.

Dry the area with a towel or allow it to air dry.

Aim your pressure washer's hose toward the top of the roof and begin to spray.

Spray in an up-and-down motion, moving the hose from top to bottom.

Continue until you have removed all of the pollen and debris from your metal roof.

Tips & Warnings
Wear a safety belt that is attached to a solid support system to prevent the possibility of slipping off the roof while cleaning it.
