How to Prepare Your Resume for Posting Online
An individual does not have to be a professional resume writer to prepare his resume to be posted online. However, careful considerations with regard to spelling, grammar and formatting cannot be overlooked. Although you may have several versions of your resume available, it is not required for you to do a complete overhaul when posting your resume online. The only requirement is that the format of your resume be compatible to that of the employer's software. This allows the employer ability to read through your qualification while avoiding potential viruses that can spread through attachments.

1
Allow someone to critique your resume. Perform a spell and grammatical check. Though an automated spell check is profitable, it is not expedient. If you want your resume to be exceptional, you will take the time necessary to make sure it is perfect. Scan over your resume to identify any run-on sentences and/or misspellings. Allow someone else to view the document to provide feedback on your work.

Employers look for keywords in your resume. Insert industry keywords. Search for the keywords relevant to the industry and position that you are applying for. Resumes submitted online are scanned electronically to locate keywords that are affiliated with specific employment position and industries. For example, a career advisor position may consist of terms in reference to education, careers, advising and planning. Locate the words that are most frequently used by going to the company's website of the position you desire. If you have difficulties locating the exact position, conduct a search online to locate similar positions in your field of choice. Remember to repeat these keywords throughout the document, but refrain from using them in an excessive fashion.

Take your time reviewing your resume. Choose a file name for your resume. The name of your file should contain your name and the word "Resume." Use spaces and dashes to isolate words from each other.

Professional consultants can help you format your document. Conduct a final check. Make sure that your name and contact information is at the top of the first page. There's no need to get too fancy with the font; Times Roman, Tahoma or Verdana will do the job. However, be sure that your name is in a larger font size in comparison to the entire document. A font size of 24 should be suffice. Insert your page numbers at the bottom of the document (in the footer) and make sure your document is left justified.

Preparing resumes can be time consuming but worth it. Convert your resume to a PDF format. This format contains all of the features of the Word document as an electronic image. PDFs are created by using Adobe Acrobat software and can be printed and forwarded to other parties. The PDF format is usually compatible with various operating systems. It allows you to maintain the formatting style of your resume and is free when using Adobe's online converter.
