Certain men seem to captivate the attention of a room as soon as they open their mouths. One quality of a voice that seems to generate attention and respect is masculinity. If you feel that you speak too femininely, you can take steps to train yourself to speak in a more manly way. Using masculine tones can help you in many areas such as public speaking, dating and interacting with the public.
Things You'll Need
- Voice recorder
Record your voice as you read several paragraphs. Listen to the playback. You will have a comparison point to refer to after you train your voice to sound differently. Also, you can review speech patterns that sound feminine and target these problem areas.
Stand with straight posture and take a deep breath. Contract your abdominal muscles slightly as you exhale and speak. Breathing deeply and using these muscles lends strength and manliness to your voice.
Lower the tone of your voice. Hum at a comfortable pitch. Then drop your voice as you hum sounds like "maaaa" or "laaaaa." You can train your voice to reach lower pitches gradually by practicing often. When you are talking, remind yourself to drop down to lower pitches.
Slow down the pace of your speech. Speaking with purposeful pauses and a relaxed attitude communicates confidence, which is essential to speaking in a masculine manner.
Make eye contact as you speak. Although this doesn't actually lower the tone of your voice, it communicates self-confidence.
