How to Sew a Large Tissue Holder With Buttons
Keep a stash of tissues handy at all times by making a large tissue holder to store them in. The tissue holder will hold a pile of tissues straight from the box. Dress up the tissue holder by sewing decorative buttons to the front of it. Even if you're a novice sewer, you can create a tissue holder quickly, making them a great idea for a last-minute gift.

Instructions

1
Cut two pieces of fabric that each measure 12 inches by 11 inches.
-
2
Arrange the buttons on the front side of one piece of fabric. This fabric will be the exterior of the tissue holder. Use as many or as few buttons as you like. Position them at least 1 inch away from the edges.
-
-
3
Thread the hand sewing needle and sew the buttons to the fabric. Tie a knot in one end of the thread before pushing the needle up through the fabric and buttons.
-
4
Place the other piece of fabric on top of the fabric with buttons, right sides together. Pin the four sides of the fabrics together, then sew with a 3/8-inch seam, leaving a 2-inch gap on one 12-inch side.
-
5
Turn the fabric so that the right side faces out, pulling it through the gap. Iron the fabric so that it's straight and crease-free.
-
6
Position the fabrics so that the outside fabric and buttons face up. The interior fabric should be on the bottom.
-
7
Fold the fabric up 3 inches along the 12-inch side to create a rectangle that measures 11 inches by 6 inches. There will be a slit within the middle of the tissue holder. Pin the holder together along the 6-inch sides, then sew 1/2 inch away from the edges.
-
8
Turn the tissue holder right side out. Slide a 1-inch thick pile of tissues into the slit on the top of the holder. You don't have to fold the tissues.
