How to Make Thread Bracelets With Bumps Around Them

Make friendship bracelets using embroidery floss to trade with your friends. The spiral bracelet forms a knot on each row, creating a bumpy spiral effect down the length of the bracelet. Use several different colors of thread or the same color for the entire bracelet. You can also mix and match colors; for example, tie a yellow and blue strand together for added visual interest. You can embellish the bracelet further by tying charms to the ends of the thread before you begin tying the knots.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut 3 feet of each of the strands of embroidery floss you're using. If you're using a single color, cut six strands 3 feet long.

    • 2

Arrange the floss in a bunch, putting the two strands of each color next to each other. Tie the ends of the floss together, leaving a 2 or 3-inch tail.

    • 3

Tape the threads to a clipboard or push a safety pin through the knot and attach the threads to your jeans or the side of a couch.

    • 4

Take the two strands of thread on the left side and bring them over the other four strands, forming a "4" shape. Tuck the ends of the two strands under the inside of the "4" and pull tightly to form a knot. Repeat 10 times. You'll notice a bump forming along the bracelet as you make the knots. When you've made the 10 knots, leave the two strands on the right side.

    • 5

Take the next two strands of floss and knot them around the other four strands, making a "4" shape. Make a series of 10 knots, then place those two strands on the right side.

    • 6

Pick up the two strands that are now on the left and make a series of 10 knots with those. Place them on the right side when finished.

    • 7

Continue making 10 knots with the pairs of strands until the bracelet is the length you want. Cut any excess thread from the bracelet, leaving a 2-inch long tail.

    • 8

Tie the bracelet around your wrist or the wrist of a friend.
