How to Get Nail Glue Off

Women choose to use fake fingernails for a variety of reasons. Some use them to cover up their natural nails because they are short or break easily, others use them for special occasions such as proms or weddings. Regardless of the reason, fake nails can be difficult to remove, and once they are removed, can leave residual glue on the nail, which can prove difficult to get off. By following a few easy steps nail glue can be easily removed without ruining the natural nail.

Remove the fake nails by gently peeling them off, starting where the nail has already begun to detach. If the nail has not begun to detach, use a pointed nail file to run around the edges of the fake nail in order to loosen it.

Place some warm, soapy water into a large bowl, about three-quarters of the way full. Soak the tips of your fingers for approximately 15 minutes. This will soften the natural nail and the glue making the glue easier to remove.

Pull up gently on the loosest side of the fake nail, if it has already begun to detach. If the nail has not begun to detach, use a pointed nail file to go around the edges of the nail, which should help begin to loosen it. Do not force the fake nail off if it does not come off easily. Try soaking it a little longer and then again attempt to remove it.

Soak a cotton ball in acetone nail polish remover. Place the cotton ball onto the affected nail where the residual nail glue remains and hold it there for about 5 minutes. The acetone will break down the glue.

Gently wipe the nail with the cotton ball to remove the glue. Repeat this step as necessary until all the glue is removed.

Wash hands thoroughly to remove the acetone. Apply a little baby oil to the nail, cuticle and the surrounding skin to regain moisture that may have been lost from the acetone.
