How to Sharpen a Round Saw Blade

How to Sharpen a Round Saw Blade thumbnail
Round saw blades should be sharpened regularly for safety purposes.

Power saws and circular saws have round blades with sharp teeth that are used for cutting. These blades can be changed out completely once they are extremely old or worn, or they can be sharpened. Sharpening your round, circular saw blade is important to keep the saw running efficiently and safely. A sharp blade also can prevent kickback, which is when the saw blade suddenly becomes pinched and jerks up and out of the wood toward the operator. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your saw's electrical cord from its wall outlet.

    • 2

Lift your circular saw's blade guard into the up position.

    • 3

Slip your wrench over the fastening bolt and turn it counterclockwise to loosen and remove it. Once it is off, pull out the washer and remove the blade.

    • 4

Hold the round blade in your left hand with the bottom partially wrapped in a towel.

    • 5

Place the diamond sharpener's stone against the inner side of the round blade's saw tooth.

    • 6

Move the sharpener back and forth in an even number of strokes until the blade is sharp. Follow this step until all of the saw's teeth have been sharpened.
