How to Write Performance Statements
A performance statement is utilized to clarify an employee's strong points, or performance. This type of statement outlines strengths, accomplishments and even weaknesses to give a well-rounded understanding of an employee's performance. Writing a performance statement does not require following a specific template; however, you must keep several points in mind when writing this statement.

1
Write a performance statement regarding the communication level of the employee. For example, within the communication section of this statement, you may include statements regarding the employee's listening, speaking and writing capabilities.
-
2
Outline the employee's ability to adapt and accept certain challenges. This type of performance statement explains the employee's flexibility when it comes to work conditions and responsibilities. For example, if the employee is able to cope well with changing plans and is able to find swiftly alternative methods for reaching a target goal, provide this information within the performance statement.

Write down the employee's ability to draw conclusions and solve problems. This statement is vital for an employee who wants to be promoted, as it shows his understanding of the job and how he breaks down information into workable components. For example, you may say that the employee is able to identify key facts within a plethora of data and is able to break down complex information into workable parts.

4
Describe the employee's customer service skills. This aspect is especially important if you work in a retail or customer-centered environment. Within this performance statement, describe the employee's method for dealing with unruly customers or his desire to improve the customer experience.

5
Provide several other strong points of the employee; for example: Is he able to manage multiple projects at once and at the same time still meet all deadlines? Does he take on a leadership role with his peers?
-
6
Compile all of these statements into a single sheet of performance statements organized by categories. For example, with the aforementioned steps, you will have five main categories and underneath each category are several statements describing the employee's performance.

Tips & Warnings
If you are unsure of the exact duties of an employee, speak with the human resource department to gather specific information.
Never lie on a performance statement, as this may mislead an employee into thinking he is performing better or worse than he actually is.
