      Open Photoshop Elements. Pull down the "File" menu and select "Open." Browse to the image to turn black and white and double-click its file name.

      Click "Grayscale." Click "Discard" at the color warning window. The image turns black and white.

      Click the "File" menu and select "Save As." Type a new name for the picture so as not to overwrite the color version and click the "Save" button.
