How to Make Pharaoh Projects
Pharaoh projects are a staple of classroom studies on Egypt and can be adapted to all grade levels. Typical projects include pharaoh masks, mummies and pyramids. Materials range from construction paper and tape to modeling clay and metallic gold paints. Other projects include traditional posters of Egyptian pharaohs and historic events, including time-lines, hieroglyphics and facts about the pharaohs. Students can also do a multimedia project which might include a Power Point presentation and Egyptian music.

1
Place the plastic mask on a large sheet of cardboard or poster board; trace around the mask and cut out the traced area. Tape or glue mask to cardboard; trim cardboard in desired shape for burial mask. Decorate with craft paints, metallic accents and jewels if desired.
-
2
Wrap doll in gauze until completely covered to look like a mummy. Color the gauze by dabbing with a cotton ball dipped in brown tea to create the appearance of aging. Display mummy on its own, as part of a larger display or in a decorated shoebox to represent a sarcophagus.

3
Build a pyramid shape using modeling clay or construction blocks. Cover pyramid with sandpaper to create authentic weathered look and texture. Display on its own or as part of larger diorama of Egyptian history.
-
4
Create a display about the pharaohs on poster board using markers or colored pencils. Make a time-line of historic events, draw hieroglyphics to represent traditional Egyptian concepts, list important facts about a specific pharaoh or draw replicas of traditional pharaohs' attire.
-
5
Design 10 through 12 slides containing photographs, maps, time-lines or fact lists for a Power Point presentation on the pharaohs. Include a recording of Egyptian music as background to the slide show.
