How to Transfer iPod Contacts to an Android

Every Android phone needs an active Google account to be fully functional. The Google account stores and synchronizes calendar, contact and email information on the phone. When you want to transfer contact data from an Apple iOS device such as an iPod Touch or iPhone to an Android smartphone, you simply copy the contact data into iTunes and then pass that data on to Google to enable synchronization. Native features in iTunes make synchronizing the contact data on your phone with Google a relatively simple task.

Things You'll Need

  • iOS 3.0 or later
  • iTunes 7.7 or later
  • Connect your iPod to a computer using the proprietary USB cable shipped with the device. ITunes will launch automatically on the computer unless you have changed the default settings.

  • Locate and click your device name in the left pane of the iTunes window. Click the "Info" tab. Click "Sync Address Book" and "Sync Google Address Book" contacts. Click "Configure."

  • Enter your Google username and password. Click "OK." Click the "Apply" button to synchronize your accounts.

  • Open the menu on your Android phone. Tap "Settings," then tap "Accounts and Sync." Tap the "Sync" button next to your Google account ID.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are running iTunes for Microsoft Windows, you will select "Google Contacts" from a drop-down box instead of a check box.
