There are a few problems you can come across while using a Toshiba 50HM67 high-definition television (HDTV). One problem is a bad lamp unit, which can prevent the television from working or cause severe picture decay. If there is a problem with the lamp unit, you need to replace it. Other problems cause issues with the TV's audio. There are steps you can take to solve issues if they come up.
Things You'll Need
- Phillips screwdriver
- Replacement lamp unit
Replace Lamp Unit
Turn off the television (if it is not already turned off) and unplug it. If you just turned it off, wait at least one hour before doing anything further to allow the lamp to cool off.
Locate the lamp unit door on the lower-right side of the back of the television. Use a screwdriver to loosen and remove the screw holding it in place, then remove the door. Use a screw driver to loosen and remove both screws holding the lamp in place, then grab the lamp handle and pull to remove the lamp.
Grab the replacement lamp by the handle and insert it in place of the old one. Put the screws back in place and use a screwdriver to tighten them, securing the lamp.
Place the lamp door back in place, then use a screwdriver to tighten the screw and secure the door.
Plug the television back in and turn it on. It may take the television a few seconds to completely warm up. When the picture is back to how it normally appears, the television is fully warmed up.
Check the main power cord if the television does not turn on. If it is loose or unplugged, securely plug it in to an electrical socket. Try plugging the television into another socket to see if the current one is bad. Try turning the TV on with the remote. If it does not turn on, try with the power switch on the front panel. If this works, change the remote's batteries. Check the LED lights on the front panel. If the blue LED light is on while the yellow LED light is blinking, it may be an indication that you need to change the lamp unit.
Check the video cables if there is no picture or picture is poor. If they are loose or disconnected, securely reconnect them. Press the "Input" button on the remote until you see picture to see if you have the wrong input source selected. Try changing to another channel to see if the picture quality is good on the other station. If it is, the previous station may be having technical problems. Check the LED lights on the front panel to see if they are indicating that the lamp unit needs to be changed.
Check the audio cables if there is no audio or audio quality is bad. If they are loose or disconnected, securely reconnect them. Press the "Menu" button on the remote and select "Audio," then "Audio Setup." Set "MTS" to "Stereo," as this setting generally provides the best quality audio. Try changing to a different channel to see if the audio is better. If it is, the previous channel is probably experiencing technical difficulties.
