Is commuting to work on a bike difficult because work is further away than you'd like to bike? Integrating mass transit into your overall commute may make cycling to work possible.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Call your local transit authority to find out the policies regarding bikes on trains and buses. You may need to attend a short class to learn how to get your bike on board, and you may need to get a permit to get onto trains or buses with your bike.

  2. Step 2

Get maps from your transit authority that outline transit routes so that you can figure out which route is best for your commute.

  3. Step 3

Figure out how much biking you want to do every day and how much public transportation you can tolerate, and find a transit point that satisfies both.

  4. Step 4

Consider biking to the train or bus station, leaving your bike and then taking mass transit the rest of the way. This can be a helpful solution if your area doesn't allow bikes on mass transit or the hours they do don't work with your schedule.

  5. Step 5

Think about biking to the gym, if you belong to one, and getting ready for work there before catching mass transit the rest of the way.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cycling in traffic can be dangerous. Observe all traffic laws, and avoid potential hazards.
