How to Use Excel to Match Up Two Different Columns


Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program included in most versions of the Microsoft Office Software Suite. With Excel, it is possible to create complex spreadsheets incorporating vast quantities of data and link the data together with formulas. One of the more simple yet useful operations you can perform on any worksheet in any Excel document is matching up column sizes to each other.

  • Open the Excel document, move your mouse cursor over one of the column headers you want to match up (such as "A" or "D"), and then click and drag until the columns you want are all selected.

  • Right-click on one of the column headers and select "Column Width" from the context menu.

  • Type the desired column width for the selected columns into the "Column width" text box and click "OK." The selected columns will now change to the width you typed in the box.
