How to Put Accents on Letters in OpenOffice

A variety of non-English languages use letters with accent marks over them. Like other Word processing programs, OpenOffice Writer supports letters with accent marks. Letters with accent marks over them are considered special characters. Instead of putting accent marks on letters you type into, you have to add a special character with the accent mark from the special characters window in OpenOffice. The special characters window displays a list of all available characters you can add, including letters with accent marks and symbols.

  • Click the "Insert" menu at the top of the OpenOffice window and click "Special Character" in the menu.

  • Scroll down in the list of special characters until you find the letter with the accent mark you want over it.

  • Click the special character you want to add.

  • Click "OK."
