How to Hide Referral Links

When you sign up to become an online advertising affiliate, you are assigned a referral link to place on your website. If one of your website visitors click on the referral link or make a purchase, you are paid a percentage of the sales profit. In some cases a website visitor may deliberately delete your referral code from the web address bar before visiting another website. As a result, you don't receive credit for making the referral. To resolve this problem, you can hide the referral link by camouflaging it as a new URL.

  • Write down or copy the website address for the referral link.

  • Visit a website that allows you to shorten or camouflage website links. Examples of sites you can use are such as TinyURL, Bitly and Short URL.

  • Type or paste the referral link into the URL box. Click the designated button to generate a new URL.

  • Log into your website "Control Panel." Click the "File Directory" link to view page files.

  • Select "Edit" for the page the contains the referral link. An HTML editor box will open.

  • Look through the HTML code inside of the HTML editor box to locate the referral link. Replace the referral link with the new URL.

  • Click "Save" to save the changes to your page.
