How to Make a Pom Pom With Your Hands

Fashion your own pom poms and save yourself the money and time you would spend on a store-bought pom pom maker. You will be cheering from the sideline or the stands in no time while using your homemade pom poms.

Things You'll Need

• Ruler
• Scissors
• Yarn

Instructions

1. Measure and cut a 6-inch piece of yarn. Set the piece of yarn aside.

2. Stick out your index, middle and ring finger on one hand. Bring the fingers together.

3. Wrap yarn around your three fingers at least 50 times. The more times you wrap the yarn, the fuller the completed pom pom will be.

4. Slide the yarn off your fingers carefully so as not to unravel the wrapped yarn.

5. Tie the 6-inch piece of yarn around the center of the bundle.

6. Snip the looped ends of the yarn, and fluff the pom pom.

7. Trim any odd strands of yarn, including the tails of the 6-inch piece tied around the center, so the pom pom has a clean round shape.

Tips & Warnings

• Make a multicolor pom pom by wrapping two or more colors of yarn around your fingers at the same time.

• The width of the completed pom pom is equal to the width of your index, middle and ring fingers when held together.

• Use 1/4-inch-wide strips of fabric instead of yarn to make a fabric pom pom.
