How to Convert a Doc to an ePub in Calibre

Calibre is an open-source, free e-book library management tool available online as a download. E-book users and creators use Calibre to organize their e-books and create ePub files from their own work. Calibre converts many document types into ePub such as PDF, LIT, EPub, RTF, TXT and HTML. Calibre will not directly convert a Microsoft Word document file into an ePub. Calibre recommends saving the Doc file to an HTML file before converting.

  • View your Microsoft Word document. Click "File" and select "Save as" from the menu. Save the file as an HTML file by choosing "Save as Web Page Filtered" from the file type drop-down. Click "Save" to save the file in a new format.

  • Open Calibre. Click "Add a book." Select the file location of the book from your computer. Click "Open." The book will be imported into Calibre and appear on your Title sheet.

  • Click the title you wish to convert and click the "Convert" icon from the top of the screen. Add title, author, publisher and tag data to the boxes on the right side of the screen. Some titles will auto-fill this information.

  • Verify the output format at the bottom of the screen says "EPUB OUTPUT" and click "OK" to convert.
