If you're decorating a batch of cupcakes, you may be tempted to purchase a package of commercial cupcake toppers. These paper or plastic icons usually have pictures of cartoon characters or Santa or the Easter bunny. Get the same result for little or no extra cost by making your own cupcake toppers at home.
Things You'll Need
- Glue sticks
Find a graphic design or set of designs that you want for your decoration. Search your graphics software, if you have such a computer program, or online clip art galleries to find suitable images. Get creative with the graphics you select. Use school mascots, photos, logos or sports symbols.
Print out multiple copies of your selected designs. Set the image size so that it's about 1 1/2 inches square. Print pairs of pictures.
Draw a square or circle around each graphic with a shape measuring 1 3/4 inches across. Cut out each square or circle.
Run a glue stick over the back surface of one cut-out. Lay a toothpick on the paper with the blunt end laying on the paper and the pointed end sticking out the bottom. Lay a matching paper graphic on top of the toothpick and press the two cutouts together, encasing the toothpick between the layers of paper. Poke the toothpick into the center of an iced cupcake.
