Many government services and business lines are reached through a number considered to be "toll-free" such as phone numbers that fall under the 877 area code. If you are traveling abroad in a different country and need to call one of these numbers, the telephone systems in most countries are equipped to let you call phone numbers in the United States, whether they are regular numbers or toll-free 800 numbers.
Dial the International Direct Dial number for your country on your phone. (See "Resources" if you don't know it.)
Dial "1" for the U.S. Country Code.
Dial "877" on your phone using your keypad.
Dial the remaining bit of the number as you normally would.
Tips & Warnings
- Since you are not calling from within the U.S., you will be responsible for any charges incurred. (There are some numbers that are still toll-free, but they are a rarity.)
