How to Make DivX Play on My Blu-Ray

Save

DivX files are high-definition movie files that can be played on computers, handheld devices such as phones and MP3 players and movie playing devices such as Blu-ray players. The Blu-ray player reads storage media such as a data disc or USB drive and can play the DivX files found on these devices. To play DivX movies on a Blu-ray player, the Blu-ray player must be DivX compatible. Update the Blu-ray player's firmware to make sure the most current DivX software is updated to your device. Outdated firmware may prevent you from viewing some DivX movies. To see if a Blu-ray player is a certified DivX device, see the DivX Blu-ray player link in the Resources section of this article. The Blu-ray player must be connected to the Internet before updating the firmware.

  • Power on the Blu-ray player. Do not insert a disc yet.

  • Open the Blu-ray player menu. Some Blu-ray players start on the menu screen if a disc is not inserted. If the Blu-ray player does not start on the menu screen, press "Menu" on the remote control.

  • Connect your Blu-ray player to the Internet. Scroll to "Internet Settings" or "Connection Settings" and press "Enter" on the remote. Scroll to "Set Up" and press "Enter" on the remote once more. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up an Internet connection. If you are using a wireless connection, have your wireless network key available.

  • Scroll to "Check for Updates" and press "Enter" on the remote to search for firmware updates.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to download any firmware updates. Check for updates at least once a month to ensure the Blu-ray player has the most current firmware available. Without some firmware updates, the Blu-ray player might not play all DivX movies.
