LG Flat Screen TV Headphone Connection Instructions

While flat screen TVs have integrated speakers built into the system, most can also connect to other audio output devices. What they often don't have -- including many LG TVs -- are distinct headphone jacks. They typically have two audio ports meant to drive older speaker systems. Fortunately, there are adapter cables with 3.5 mm headphone jacks that you can plug into the stereo audio ports.

Things You'll Need

  • RCA audio to 3.5 mm female cable
  • 3.5 mm stereo extension cable
  • Locate the audio input jacks on your TV. They may be on the side, bottom or rear of the device; the side -- usually the left -- is most common. Check your TV's owner's manual for the location of the various jacks (see Resources).

  • Plug the prongs of the RCA audio adapter into the audio input jacks; they only go in one way.

  • Plug the extension cable into the 3.5 mm socket on the adapter cable.

  • Plug your headphones into the socket on the end of the extension cable.

Tips & Warnings

  • Measure the distance from your TV to the place where you'll be watching it and buy an extension cable that's 3 feet longer than that, to give yourself some flexibility in seating arrangements.
  • Splitters -- some with individual volume controls -- allow multiple people to listen to the TV with headphones.
