How to Find Out Who My State Senators Are

How to Find Out Who My State Senators Are thumbnail
State senators differ from U.S. senators, who work in the Capitol building in Washington, D.C.

There are two types of senators in the United States. U.S. senators are members of the U.S. Senate, which is part of Congress. Two U.S. senators represent each state. They work with the U.S. House of Representatives to create federal laws. Each of the 50 states has its own state legislature. State senators represent citizens in specific districts within the state. They work with state legislators to create state laws. You can address both as "Senator," but be sure to know which level of legislator you're dealing with when contacting or doing business with them.
