Instructions

    • 1

Spray the surface of the boots with an odor-eliminator spray made for footwear. Spray both the interior and exterior of the boot. Don't forget to spray under the tongue area as well. Follow the manufacturer's instructions as to how much to spray.

    • 2

Sprinkle baking soda into the boots. Just sprinkle enough to cover the bottom of the boot and leave it in the boot. Shake the baking soda out before you wear it.

    • 3

Use vinegar to remove strong odors. Make a solution of vinegar and water. Use three parts water to one part white vinegar. Place the vinegar solution in a spray bottle and spray the interior of the boots. Place clean paper towels inside the boot to absorb the moisture and turn the boots upside down.

    • 4

Use cat litter, which has odor-absorbing properties. Cut up a pair of old pantyhose. Fill both legs with cat litter and tie the ends. Place the pantyhose in the shoes to absorb odors.

Use fabric softener sheets. Place one sheet in each boot to absorb odor. Leave the sheets in the boots until you wear them again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clean your Gore-tex hiking boots after long hikes. Always shake out the interior of the boot because you may have sand or dirt inside. Follow the manufacturer's instructions as to specific cleaning methods for your boots.
