How to Make Another YouTube Account

Before Google bought YouTube, you were allowed to have multiple usernames tied to a single account so that you could post family videos under one name and scathing tirades under another. Google changed that; starting in May 2009, people registering for YouTube accounts were given a Google account to sign in with, and in March 2011, a YouTube developer announced that people with older YouTube-only accounts would be required to link them to Google accounts. Google accounts don't allow you to have multiple YouTube accounts, so if you want to create another YouTube account, you'll need to sign up with another email address.

Things You'll Need

  • Email address (different from first YouTube account's email address)
  • Navigate to YouTube at Sign out of your first account if you're automatically logged in.

  • Click the blue "Create Account" button at the top of the screen.

  • Fill out the required fields on the next page. Register with a different email address than the one used for your first account, or you won't be allowed to create the second account. If you don't have another email address already, you can sign up for a free email account with several providers, including AOL, Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo and Google's own Gmail.

  • Click "I Accept."

  • Fill in the fields on the next page to create a Google account. Click "Create My Account!" when you're finished to enable your second YouTube account. If you registered using a Gmail email account, you'll be prompted to sign in to it to link it with your new YouTube account. Click "Link Accounts" after signing in to enable your second YouTube account.
