How to Make a Bad Zoo on Zoo Tycoon

Face it -- making something good can become boring. In the case of "Zoo Tycoon," a video game for the PC where players must construct a zoo in which the animals are healthy and happy and the visitors' needs are met, building a good zoo can become repetitive. For a break, players may want to create a bad zoo, or for an added challenge, make a bad zoo and see how quickly it can be turned around. Either way, making a bad zoo, and seeing how the visitors react, can make for a fun game.

Instructions

    • 1

Build a poor layout. Make sure the paths throughout the zoo are too narrow to accommodate visitors. Place exhibits farther than needed to make visitors walk for long stretches with nothing interesting to do. Place arbitrary detours into the path.

    • 2

Keep bathrooms and food and beverage stands to a minimum. Make sure that the zoo never has enough facilities to keep its visitors happy. Whenever possible, provide foods and beverages that visitors do not want.

    • 3

Place buildings and exhibits in the wrong location. If you decide to build bathrooms and food or drink stands make sure they are distant from the normal paths and do not provide enough room for the line to stand without obstructing pathways. Stick structures in the middle of the walkway and make visitors go around them. Place buildings in a location that visitors can't reach or obscure the view of exhibits and other attractions.

    • 4

Understaff the zoo. Either refrain from hiring any staff or keep the staff low enough that there aren't enough personnel to keep the zoo clean and the animals happy. Without adequate cleaning staff, the zoo will soon become filthy and make for an exceptionally bad experience.

    • 5

Mistreat the animals. Keeping the zoo understaffed also means not providing enough zookeepers to maintain the animals. Feed the animals the food they least want, build incorrect habitats, have only one animal in each habitat, keep only common animals and have several habitats with the same type of animal. Miserable animals make for a miserable zoo.

    • 6

Jack up prices. Visitors won't enjoy paying high prices for a lackluster zoo experience.

    • 7

Be creative. "Zoo Typcoon" is meant to simulate the experience and demands of running a real zoo. Imagine the most absurd, ridiculous and inconvenient elements and create them. Think of all the things that make for a successful "Zoo Tycoon" zoo and then do the exact opposite.
