How to Make a Indian Teepee for Day Care
Making an Indian teepee can be a fun and educational exercise for children. A fairly simple and inexpensive activity, children find it interesting as an art project, too, as they also are allowed to decorate the fabric of the teepee. By following a few simple steps, your teepee can be sturdy and not take a lot of room. Before or during the process of making the Indian teepee, you can teach the children about Indians and how they lived.
Things You'll Need
- Three pieces of PVC pipe, 1-inch diameter and 6 feet long
- Rope
- White flat bed sheet
- Velcro
- Fabric paint
Instructions

1
Gather the PVC pipes together and tie them with a rope about 6 inches from the top. Spread the pipes so that they form a cone shape.
-
2
Wrap the white flat bed sheet around the outside of the PVC pipes.
-
-
3
Stitch the sheet so that is it about the size of the cone.
-
4
Cut off the excess fabric. The sheet should fit comfortably around the cone.
-
5
Cut a hole in the front of the fabric for the door. You have the choice to remove the door material entirely or keep enough fabric so that you can enter the teepee. If you choose to just cut enough fabric, then you will need to use Velcro strips on the inside and out to open and close the door.
-
6
Paint the teepee with the fabric paint to decorate it.
