Different browsers have different strengths and weaknesses.

When you install Mozilla Firefox, it sets itself as the default Web browser unless otherwise instructed. Every time you start Mozilla, it checks to see if it's still the default browser. If not, it pops up a window asking you if you'd like to make it the default browser. If you'd like to use a different browser to surf the Web, disable this Mozilla feature, then tell Windows to use your preferred Web browser as the default.

Instructions

    • 1

Double-click the Mozilla Firefox icon on the desktop to launch it. Click the "Firefox" menu, then "Options." Click the "Advanced" tab.

    • 2

Un-check the box next to "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup." Click "OK." Close Firefox.

    • 3

Click the "Start" menu button, then click "Default Programs." Click "Set your default programs." Scroll to the browser that you want to replace Mozilla Firefox as the default browser.

    • 4

Click "Set this program as default" to use the new browser instead of Firefox. Click "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • To quickly set Internet Explorer as the default browser, click "Make Default" next to its name in Windows' "Internet Options."
