How to Update Java Version 1.3

Update your version of Java 1.3 to improve performance, security and stability of Java applications. Sun Microsystems, which is owned by Oracle Corporation, maintains the Java platform. Java is free for home users to download and run. Typical users need to install Java SE (Standard Edition), which gives you the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Instructions

1. Click the Windows "Start" menu, select "Control Panel" and click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon. Look for the Java 1.3 Runtime Environment and click "Remove." Once it is done uninstalling, look for and remove any other Java Environment programs on the list. Remove all old Java versions before updating to a new version.

2. Download the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from the Java website. The installer should automatically begin once it's done downloading. Restart your system once Java is done installing.

3. Click the Windows "Start" menu, select "Control Panel" and click the "Java" icon. This launches the Java Control Panel. Click the "Update" tab. This lets you edit settings for the Java Update feature that is automatically installed with Java. The Java Update program automatically checks for updates and downloads and prompts you to install them. You can change how frequently the Java Update program checks for updates. You can also click "Update Now" to immediately check for any updates.
