How to Get an Icon on Google Maps
Users have the ability to place icons and even create their own icon shapes in Google Maps. These icons can be helpful for keeping track of locations and other points of interest. The icons can be used along with detailed navigation instructions to create tours or step-by-step guides for finding restaurants and other attractions. Adding an icon to your customized Google Map is relatively quick and straightforward.

Create or open a map in Google Maps. Navigate to the area where you want to add a "placemark" icon.

Click "Edit" to enter the editing mode. Click on the placemark button to add an placemark icon to the map. This will turn your cursor into a placemark icon with a crosshair at the bottom.

Move the cursor to the area where you want to add the placemark icon. Click on the area to place the icon on the map. To cancel the placemark icon cursor, press "Escape." You can also move the icon to a new location by clicking on it and dragging it to the desired location.

Use the line tool to create your own icon. Click on the line icon and select "Draw a Shape" from the drop-down menu. Your cursor will change into a crosshair.

Move the cursor to the desired location and click on the map to begin the shape. Create new lines within the shape by clicking on each end point of the shape. Double-click on the last end point of the shape or click on the starting point to finish the shape. Click "OK" to save the new icon.
