1
Determine which type of pilot license you would like to pursue. A Recreational Pilot Permit will allow you to fly family and friends within Canada. A Private Pilot License will allow you to do the same anywhere in the world. A Commercial Pilot License will allow you to fly commercially anywhere in the world, including on larger jets as a co-pilot. The Airline Transport Pilot License will allow you to fly commercial jets as a captain.

Choose a flight school. Flight training to receive a commercial pilot license can take two years or more to complete. A private pilot license typically takes one or two years to complete on a part-time basis.

3
Receive a pilot's medical exam from a certified aviation medical examiner. This can usually be completed at any time during your ground school portion of training, and even before you begin your course.
-
4
Complete your ground school courses and pass the written exam for a private pilot license. Take flight lessons during ground school, first with the instructor and then solo with the instructor guiding you from the ground. Once you pass the written exam and finish the flight lessons you must pass a flight test to receive your license.

Tips & Warnings
To obtain a commercial pilot license you must first earn a private pilot license. It is also possible to become a military pilot and convert that to a private pilot license after you leave the service. However, military pilots are typically officers, and becoming an officer requires a four-year college degree.
