How to Eject a CD on a Dell Slot Load Laptop

Dell produces a line of laptop computers that no longer feature eject buttons directly on the optical drive itself. This can pose a problem when the disc in the drive needs to be ejected and the hardware eject button on the keyboard does not respond properly. While some models of the slot-loading Dell laptop computers feature an eject hole that a paper clip may be inserted into, you can also eject the CD through the Windows Explorer interface.

  • Press the "eject" button on the keyboard. If the disc does not eject, proceed with the remaining steps.

  • Click the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of the screen.

  • Click "Computer."

  • Right-click the disc drive.

  • Click "Eject."

Tips & Warnings

  • The eject button on the keyboard is dependent upon the Dell QuickSet software, which is factory installed on the system.
