How to Overcome Fear and Anger With Buddhism
Buddhism was founded under the principles of searching for enlightenment and teaching compassion through the inter-connectivity of all living things. Applying these principles to overcome fear or anger can help one better understand themselves, nature and humanity. Although Buddhists do not believe in a personal God, they believe in the relationship between humanity and God. A 2,500-year old-religion, Buddhism can help you overcome fear and anger through personal and spiritual development, meditation and developing wisdom through your relationship with nature.

1
Think about the disadvantages of fear and anger. Read the teachingings of Buddha. For instance, in "Kakacupama Sutta", it is taught that "if we do not let our hearts get angered... our minds will be unaffected and we will say no evil words." (See Resource 5)

2
Identify what triggers your anger or fear. Is it a person or the possible outcome of a situation that triggers your fear or anger? Reflect on more positive aspects of the person or possible outcomes, once you identify the trigger. Keep fear or anger at bay by walking with a smile or embodying Buddha through living a peaceful and righteous life and sharing love and kindness with all living things.

3
Find a quiet space free of distractions and meditate. Sit in a comfortable position with your back straight. Close your eyes and breathe through your nose.
-
4
Visualize letting go of fear, anger and anything elsed that causes stress or anxiety. Use this time to visualize further what causes your fear or anger. What do you fear? What makes you angry? Begin to visualize these fears coming together, joining and linking and burning into a thick cloud of smoke. Imagine inhaling the cloud of smoke into your nostrils and then slowly exhale, imagining the cloud of smoke and its negative energy exiting your body and mind.
-
5
Inhale the pure energy of Buddha, nature and all that is good in your life. Visualize light, space and fearlessness entering your body. Continue to meditate until you have a clear and more peaceful mind. Go into the world using this positive renewal and show compassion to all living things.
-
6
Have patience. If you find yourself in a stressful situation such as bad traffic or waiting behind a mother with a screaming baby at the grocery store, remember that patience is one of the foundations for attaining enlightenment.
